A’Ja Lyons is a writer and historian from the Gulf Coast currently residing in the Upper Midwest. She is a graduate student at Iowa State University’s Master’s of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and Environment program. She is the founder of Griot Gang, a summer creative writing workshop for Black graduate English students. A’Ja is the proud mother of a highly athletically gifted and animal-loving child. When not writing, A’Ja can be found at local theater productions, art shows, or hiking at Central Iowa nature preserves.
